OEKO TEX certified

Short answer: yes — merino suits Pilates beautifully, especially if you have sensitive skin. It moves with you, breathes through controlled work, and is clinically gentle on reactive skin — with no synthetic itch, static cling or microplastics.

Why merino wool works for Pilates

1. Clinically gentle on skin

Pilates is close-contact, floor-and-reformer work, so what’s against your skin matters. Superfine merino (≤17.5 micron) is clinically shown to reduce eczema severity and doesn’t activate the nerve fibres that cause itch — the opposite of scratchy old wool. (Woolmark clinical research) Estroni uses 17.5–18.5 micron wool.

2. Breathable temperature regulation

Controlled, warm studio work builds heat gradually. Merino moves moisture as vapour and buffers heat — it buffered moisture 96% better than polyester in NCSU testing — so you stay comfortable without the clammy-then-cold swing of synthetics. (Woolmark / NCSU research)

3. No static cling, no microplastics

Synthetics build static and ride up during rolls and inversions. Merino doesn’t cling or crackle, resists odour, and as a natural fibre sheds no microplastics against your skin.

The honest trade-off

For grippy reformer and spring work you want fitted pieces that hold their shape — Estroni’s 95% merino / 5% elastane gives that stretch and recovery, where loose 100% merino can sag. Pilates is lower-sweat than HIIT, so merino’s slower dry-time is rarely an issue here.

Frequently asked questions

Is merino wool good for Pilates?

Yes. Merino is soft and non-restrictive, breathes through controlled work, won’t cling with static and is clinically gentle on sensitive skin — ideal for close-contact mat and reformer work.

Is merino good for sensitive skin during Pilates?

Yes. Superfine merino (≤17.5 micron) is clinically shown to suit eczema-prone skin and doesn’t trigger itch, so it’s comfortable in close floor and reformer work.

Does merino stretch enough for Pilates?

In a blend, yes. Estroni’s 95% merino / 5% elastane gives the stretch and shape recovery needed for reformer and spring work.

Is merino better than synthetic for Pilates?

For comfort and skin, yes — no static cling, no microplastics, and clinically gentle on skin. Pilates is low-sweat, so merino’s slower dry-time isn’t a drawback here.
